Pimco has added Qi Wang to its chief investment officer (CIO) lineup, making the hedge fund and macro specialist its first CIO for portfolio implementation.

Wang, who joined the group in 2010, will be added to the Newport Beach-based group’s CIO team, which includes Dan Ivascyn, Andrew Balls, Marc Seinder, Mark Kiesel and Scott Mather.

In his new role, Wang, who has 27 years of investment experience, will serve as a member of the portfolio management committee, in addition to overseeing portfolio implementation, portfolio management analysis and the delivery platform. portfolio manager data.

Commenting on Wang’s appointment, Ivascyn, who is global CIO, said, “Qi is a trusted market leader, both as a member of our investment and PM leadership committee, and as a manager of our global macro hedge fund strategies, therefore is uniquely positioned to lead this strategically important function.

Along with Wang’s rise to the C-suite, Pimco appointed Sudi Mariappa as global head of analytics. He replaces Ravi Mattu, who is retiring after four decades in financial services. Meanwhile, Josh Davis will become global head of risk management.

Mariappa and Davis will also be supported by Pimco’s analytics and risk management teams. Mariappa has 34 years of experience in the investment industry, including as a portfolio manager and as an advisor.

He will work closely with Masoud Sharif, Head of Core Risk Analysis, and Marco van Akkeren, Head of Desktop Quantitative Analysis.

Davis brings to the role nearly two decades of extensive experience in portfolio management, risk management, team leadership and analytics. He will be supported by Matt Putnicki, who has over ten years of experience in risk management, is a member of Pimco’s Global Risk Committee and oversees its team of risk managers.
